Voltes V legacy boazanians

Director Mark Reyes commends 'Voltes V: Legacy' main antagonist Martin Del Rosario for being an intelligent actor: "When he read the part at the auditions, we knew then that we found our guy."

Voltes V: Legacy director Mark Reyes took to his Instagram account to express his admiration for the upcoming live-action TV series' villains to be portrayed by Martin Del Rosario, Epy Quizon, Carlo Gonzales, and Liezel Lopez.

Martin, Epy, Carlo, and Liezel will play the respective characters of the Boazanians crew namely Prince Zardoz, Zuhl, Draco, and Zandra.

Direk Mark said, "I am confident to report that these actors have truly made the classic Boazanians from the Anime into three-dimensional characters you are going to love, hate, laugh with and cry with. I am proud of #teamBozzie."

In one part of his post, the director shared that the way the production team feels for the actors who will play the menacing characters in Voltes V: Legacy is comparable to how English author Neil Gaiman perceives the actors he chose for the Netflix adaptation of The Sandman comic book series published by DC Comics.

In a screenshot Direk Mark posted, Neil defended the casting in the classic comic book's first-ever on-screen adaptation after some commenters online lashed out at the renowned writer, saying that the "casting preference was so different from the comics."

This is after Netflix announced that the cast of The Sandman on-screen adaptation includes nonbinary and black actors. Nonbinary actor Mason Alexander Park will play Desire, a nonbinary character in the source material, while black actor Kirby Howell-Baptiste will play Death, who is depicted as white in the comics.

Neil stood up with their decision of casting Mason and Kirby because they "loved their audition and felt they captured the character when they spoke the lines more than anyone else did."

Likewise, this is Direk Mark's mindset when it comes to the criticisms he received for casting Martin as the main antagonist in Voltes V: Legacy, playing Prince Zardoz.

In the comments section of the director's post, a Voltes V fan admitted he has reservations in the portrayal of the 28-year-old Kapuso star.

"I personally am looking forward to seeing the show once it premieres. Admittedly, while I found some of the casting choices to be very spot on (notably Epi Quizon as Zuhl) I do have some reservations with others (like Martin Del Rosario as Prince Zardos). I feel he lacks that burning rage boiling beneath the surface and his arrogance and pride of being the head of the Boazanian invasion fleet. In alot of ways, both the actor and the character of Prince Zardos are striving to prove themselves worthy. But I will trust you and your team's direction and wish you guys the very best in this. This show is a once in a lifetime gig, and if done well, will no doubt become the benchmark of what top-class production teleseryes can achieve. Much love to your team and the cast," the comment reads.

In his reply, Direk Mark hopes they will not disappoint the viewers as they are crafting the series well, citing Martin is an intelligent actor.

Defending Martin, the director also said, "When he read the part at the auditions, we knew then that we found our guy."

Voltes V: Legacy, written by Suzette Doctolero, bears the potential of being the Philippines' first serious epic sci-fi TV show as it is partnered with Toei Company, Ltd., the same company that brought the robot saga to life, and Telesuccess Productions, Inc.

The network also engaged the services of Riot Inc. Post-Production along with GMA Post Video graphics to handle the CGI and the live-action elements of the stories.
